Things to Do

Franklin is a tiny classic American village (approx. 300 residents) within a broader rural area first settled in 1787.  In 1983 the Village of Franklin was designated a historic district and placed on the Register of Historic Places.  The City of Oneonta is 15 minutes by car, Walton about 20, Delhi about 25, and Cooperstown about 45. Here are a few things to check out in Franklin:

Franklin Farmers’ Market

Open every Sunday, 10am-2pm, from Memorial Day weekend to Columbus Day weekend, the Franklin Farmers’ Market offers local produce and products for sale in the fresh air and sunshine.

Stagecoach Run Art Festival

The Stagecoach Run Art Festival is a free, self-guided open studio and gallery tour of some of the area’s best artists, performers and makers. The Franklin Guest House is one of 25+ venues in this venerable, long running art event, and features the art of Franklin Guest House host Anna Sea and other guest artists.

The Tulip & the Rose Restaurant

The Tulip & the Rose features cuisines from across the globe. Their chefs are masters in Turkish, Malay, Indian and Mediterranean cooking along with traditional American and Continental European specialties. Enjoy their brunch menu or come on Friday and Saturday nights for their acclaimed menus with newly crafted menus every week.

Franklin Stage Company

The Franklin Stage Company produces professional, admission-free theater that brings together audiences and artists to create community and celebrate the enduring power of stories; and to ensure the preservation of Chapel Hall, their historic home, as both an architectural treasure and a center of community activity.

Franklin Railroad and Community Museum

The Museum has a Warwick Car 30 that was made in 1886 and had an addition put on in 1909 as well as other Franklin Historical items on display. The museum is open the last Sunday of each month and by appointment.

Outside Recreation

Sidney Lake Park – Swimming, camping, boating, fishing, picnic area.

Kayak and Canoe Rental – Take a relaxing and fun float down the Susquehanna or Delaware rivers.

Local Hiking – Many stunning trails throughout the surrounding Catskill mountains.

Franklin Public Pool – Outdoor swimming during the summer, a 5-10 min walk from the Franklin Guest House (down the hill/road behind the schools playground).
